2009 Season Concluded

Howard T. Howard and Bill Simmons won the 2009 season Fleet Championship aboard
Allegro. Congratulations to them on another very fine showing. Iroquois is the boat voted
"Most Fun"...Seemed like a fraternity party was going on much of the time on that boat,
though they were competitive as well!
Danae finished the last race of the season in good
form, finishing 2nd of 7 on a blustery day and back in their true form.
Kandahar II was super
fast with a new set of sails.
Phoenix was limited by a cracked mast, but placed well anyway.
Dilemma was fast , but inconsistent and beset by a slipping gooseneck for much of the
season. Finally,
Eaglet made her racing debut under her new caretakers and was fiercely
competitive in light wind...look out when they get to know the boat better.

We had 7 boats qualify for the season and we will have 8 or 9 boats racing next season with
the additions of
Vela (ex Mumtaz) and Tern on the line.

Larchmont YC's Columbus Day Regatta saw the most wind many of us have sailed in for
some time. Saturday was a bright, sunny and cool day. The average sustained wind speed
was 23 knots during the second race and there were gusts to 30+ knots. Luckily the wind
was out of the North, so the seas were big, but manageable. Sunday was breezy, but a
relatively calm 15-20. See footage of one of the boats sailing back to port after the last race
on Saturday on youtube or click on the icon below

Our fleet was also featured in the August and September issues of LI SAIL, an online
magazine of high-quality
focusing on sailing on Long Island Sound and the South Shore.
